Chesapeake DolphinWatch (CDW) is ready to kick off the 2024 season. Are you? We hope that all 14,600 DolphinWatchers will return and join us this sighting season to report their sightings in the app. In fact, we have some new features in the app we hope that will make your experience better while reporting dolphins:
- You can now edit the location of a dolphin sighting by clicking the “View my sightings” button on the top right and then the map pin icon then following the instructions in the pop up boxes to plot your sighting in its correct location.
- You can also upload your sighting photos/videos after submitting your dolphin sighting report. To do this click “View my Sightings” button on the top right and then click the edit sighting icon to bring the sighting report box up. Next click the plus symbol and select the image you want to upload from your device, then click Save.
We recently brought on a new member to the DolphinWatch team, Danielle Deville. Danielle has been running our social media and sighting validation from 2023. You can keep up with us this sighting season on CDW’s Facebook and Instagram where Danielle has been quizzing our followers on marine mammals and sharing images of our beloved dolphins! Welcome to CDW, Danielle!
As we kick off our 8th year of leveraging citizen science to understand the biology and ecology of bottlenose dolphins in the Chesapeake, we hope you’ll consider supporting our continued collection and analysis of dolphin sighting data, in another meaningful way, through a tax- deductible donation of any size here.
