Citizens Group Urges Public to Attend March 9 Exmore Council Meeting on Proposed Housing Developments

EXMORE, Va. — A citizens group is encouraging residents across the region to attend the Exmore Town Council meeting on Monday, March 9 at 7 p.m., where concerns about large-scale housing proposals are expected to be discussed.

According to a flyer distributed by Citizens for Sustainable Development, more than 1,100 new homes have been proposed in the Exmore area behind the Food Lion plaza as part of projects described as Planned Unit Developments (PUDs). FLYER FOR MARCH 9 MEETING

The group argues that such developments are not permitted under Exmore’s 2015 Comprehensive Plan and is urging the town council to carefully consider the long-term implications of approving them.

Supporters of the effort say decisions made by the council in the coming months could have lasting impacts on communities across the northern part of Northampton County and nearby Accomack County.

According to a flyer distributed by the group, “The decisions the Town Council makes over the next two months will affect the Northern Tier, including Willis Wharf, Belle Haven, southern Accomack County and Exmore for generations.”

Concerns raised by the group include potential impacts from large-scale residential development such as increased traffic, higher real estate prices, overcrowding, and pressure on the region’s aquifer water supply.

Organizers are encouraging residents to attend the March 9 meeting at Exmore Town Hall and participate in the public process as the council reviews development proposals and related planning issues.

Town officials have not yet released a detailed agenda outlining whether the proposed developments will be formally discussed at the meeting.
