WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Luria voted for the Ensuring Veterans’ Smooth Transition (EVEST) Act (H.R. 4673) to help veterans automatically enroll in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care as they transition out of military service.
“Transitioning to civilian life can be extremely stressful for separating service members, and the EVEST Act will ensure that those who served are immediately connected with the VA system and the resources it has to offer,” Congresswoman Luria said. “Whether they need access to mental health care or treatment related to exposure to toxic chemicals, time is of the essence for veterans, and we must do everything to facilitate a smooth transition so veterans continue to receive the care they need.”
As Chair of the Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Subcommittee, Congresswoman Luria has demanded answers from the Department of Veterans Affairs on their efforts to prevent veteran suicide, including about the care offered at Hampton VA Medical Center, just outside the Congresswoman’s district. Preventing veteran suicide is among Congresswoman Luria’s top priorities.
