WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Elaine Luria voted in favor of the Strength in Diversity Act (H.R. 2639), which would authorize federal funds for grants to support voluntary local efforts to increase racial and socioeconomic diversity. Such efforts may include studying segregation, establishing public school choice zones, and recruiting new teachers to support specialized schools.
“I am proud to support the Strength in Diversity Act because this bill will provide public school districts the tools to develop voluntary, community-driven strategies for promoting diversity,” said Congresswoman Luria. “Working to promote inclusion and representation will be most effective and impactful when guided by community-driven efforts, and I am glad these efforts can begin with our public schools.”
Congresswoman Luria believes that education is the foundation for success in our democracy and has been an advocate for ensuring that all students have equal access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code. The Strength in Diversity Act would direct the Department of Education to provide planning and implementation grants to support voluntary local efforts to promote diversity in schools. These proposals can include developing evidence-based plans to address racial and socioeconomic isolation as well as recruiting and training new teachers to support these initiatives and specialized schools. This legislation has been endorsed by a broad coalition of civil rights and education advocacy organizations.

Well I sure don’t understand this press release. Ms. Luria supports gathering money together for “voluntary local efforts”. Aside from the obvious irony to that, money for volunteers, what I really don’t understand is why this is apparently no longer taught in school. As a child I learned all about the wonderful melting pot that America is, and there would then be no reason to have to try to right the ignorant wrong of no knowledge of all this. There would probably be less need for worrying about why one group and many groups looks at the differences in each other sadly, rather than enjoying it together. Who dropped that from the agenda in schools and now have to even think it needs to be taught elsewhere ? Gee, are the liberals writing legislation and wasting money and time that to repair things that they took away from us to out detriment ? Hmmmmm……and instead of fixing it they just keep throwing money at it.
