VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Congresswoman Luria joined her Democratic colleagues of Virginia’s Congressional Delegation in urging House and Senate Leadership to provide the funding necessary to maintain postal service during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Families, small businesses, and nonprofits across the Commonwealth rely on the postal service, especially during this public health emergency and economic crisis,” said Congresswoman Luria. “Virginia employs nearly 17,000 postal workers who provide critical services to maintaining everyday life for our community during these uncertain times. They deliver important packages like medicine, essential goods for small businesses, and learning materials for students. That is why we are calling on Congress to provide the funding necessary to maintain postal service during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The CARES Act only included provisions allowing the United States Postal Service (USPS) to borrow up to $10 billion. This is significantly less then the funds needed to carry out the services provided by USPS. Without significant federal investment, USPS will run out of operating funds by September.
USPS enables many communities, especially rural areas, to access prescription drugs, learning packets, and other essential resources for businesses. It serves nearly 159 million households and businesses daily. Nationally, USPS employs 7.5 million people and is a part of a $1.4 billion mailing industry.

I enthusiastically support the US Post Office. It is a service I rely on. When I see a Post Office truck on my street, I know at least some part of my government is functioning.
Just remember, we subsidize Amazon by letting them send packages through the Post Office for less than the actual shipping cost… it seems Libs always need a subsidy, even while screwing over the American People.
