Latest scent is inspired by the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse
CHESAPEAKE BAY—The Eastern Shore Candle Company (ESCC), headquartered on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, is beginning the new year by revealing its newest candle: The Old Lighthouse.
The scent features an illustration of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse and fits right in with the rest of the line of candles inspired by the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia, which include names like Moon Over the River Miles and A Beach Day in Cape Charles.
“The lighthouses of the Chesapeake Bay stir me with a sense of awe when I catch a glimpse,” said Tracie Van Dorpe, owner and founder of ESCC. “I think of the storms endured, lives saved and the old salts who dedicated their lives to be there. These mysterious and ancient places inspired this scent, so I chose to mix old wood, marine and sea salt, and have them fold into a light touch of moss and tabac for a handsome wintry aroma.”
Like the rest of the candles in the ESCC lineup, The Old Lighthouse is hand-poured in Van Dorpe’s studio in Cambridge with premium ingredients, including coconut soy wax, phthalate-free fragrance oils, and cotton wicks. The gentle wave of gray wax on top of each new ESCC candle shows that it is hand-poured, and also serves as a nod to the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
The wax is poured into glass vessels and accented with a piece of tied nautical twine. Once the candles have cooled, Van Dorpe places each candle into its signature box, which features the scent’s unique illustration, a brief history of ESCC, its heron logo, and a whimsical “HELLO FROM THE EASTERN SHORE” message on the flap.
