ACCOMAC, Va. — The Accomack County School Board has appointed Charles ‘Eddie’ Lawrence as acting superintendent following the resignation of Interim Superintendent David Jeck, who stepped down effective March 5 due to urgent personal matters.
Lawrence, currently a part-time assistant principal at Nandua Middle School, previously served as superintendent of Northampton County Public Schools for eight years. The school board approved his appointment during a work session on March 4, ensuring a smooth transition in leadership for Accomack County Public Schools (ACPS).
The board has not yet announced a timeline for selecting a permanent superintendent, but Lawrence is expected to oversee district operations while the search continues.
The leadership change follows the sudden departure of Jeck, who had served as interim superintendent since December 2024. Jeck, the former superintendent of Fauquier County Public Schools for a decade, was selected through the Virginia Association of School Superintendents’ candidate pool.
Jeck’s resignation was announced in an email to school board staff on Friday, less than two days after he indicated his departure might be imminent. On Wednesday evening, he told the Accomack County Board of Supervisors that the budget request he submitted would be the last he would ever make. In his brief statement to staff, Jeck cited “dynamics within my personal life” as making it “impossible” for him to continue in the position.
With Lawrence stepping into the role, ACPS officials aim to maintain stability while determining the next steps in the search for a permanent superintendent.
Ours may become the first civilization destroyed, not by the power of our enemies, but by the ignorance of our teachers and the dangerous nonsense they are teaching our children. In an age of artificial intelligence, they are creating artificial stupidity.
