The new student lounge at Eastern Shore Community College is dedicated in memory of Professor Barry Neville. Over the years, Mr. Neville touched and improved many lives on the Eastern Shore. This writer once asked his daughter, that had just graduated from VCU, who was the best professor she ever had. The response was succinct: Professor Neville.
More than just a prof, he was to many of his students also a mentor. Always a perfect gentlemen, his favorite catch phrase was, ‘Life is Good!’ As teacher, friend, and mentor, he is missed by the Eastern Community each day.

I think this is a great tribute to the late Professor Neville. He touched so many lives, I’m not sure he even knew how much. Best History Professor, EVER!! To quote the late Professor, ” Yee Haw, Life is good.”
This guy came in the class, hopped up on his desk and sitting there he said: ‘I am going to sit here like a fat budda and you folks are going to absorb knowledge from me.’
As I was 33 at the time, I openly laughed at him. I felt sorry for him. That was all he had? Fat Budda? Absorb Knowledge?
I didn’t attend classes one day and another teacher emailed me and said if I would entertain her with a reason why I was not there today, she would let me return tomorrow. I showed up the next day and stood up and embarrassed her in front of her class, reminded her to never forget who pays her light bill, pays for her underwear, sanitary napkins, cars, vacations, ect. The tuition payed by folks like me, that is who. I then walked out.
I am still shocked at her email, her insolence, and her lack of discretion.
Were any of you all in that Sociolagy class that day I lit her up?
I was not. I was blessed to have Professor Neville for Sociology also. But I know who you speak of. Could never have tolerated her.
