IMET invites public to celebrate Black History Month in partnership with the Reginald F. Lewis Museum to celebrate African Americans and Labor with a film screening and panel discussion on Maryland’s Black watermen. This program will also commemorate the memory of Vincent Leggett, founder of the Blacks of the Chesapeake Foundation.

George H. Brown, an ambitious steamboat captain revolutionized recreation for Black Marylanders in the early twentieth century.
See innovators like the Turner Family of Bellevue and present-day captains who have survived by shifting their businesses from commercial fishing to chartering fishing parties.
