Great news for folks in the northern part of Northampton County–the rejuvenation and re-birth of Exmore is in full swing. Below is a recent update on cool things happening in one of our favorite Eastern Shore towns:
1) Spring Custis is buying the Exmore Antique Emporium and is moving her Main Street Jewelry store to that location. Hence, her former storefront on Main Street is now available for rent. 3286 Main Street across from Town Hall. The monthly rent is $500, with ample parking, low utilities, and an ideal location. Retail is preferred. 442-7889.
2) Old Bank/Telegraph office next to the Post Office is under contract to be sold in June. The current owner has to have the building cleaned out within the next month +/-. Sharon Bates is the buyer and she has a tenant ready to drive a stake in Exmore’s vibrant business district. I understand the building will offer gourmet food including pies and cakes, and will be a take-out only. I also understand the prospective owner has an established clientele and an enthusiastic following. I have been told the name of the business will be something like “Pug in the Kitchen”. More details to follow as the sale nears completion. Sharon has told me the building will undergo a complete renovation….new awnings, restoration of the tin ceiling, mini-splits for heating/cooling, all masonry and trim repaired, etc. Her goal is to give the building a “doll house” look.
3) Remodeling of Jay’s Barbershop will continue in the next several weeks with floor, bathroom, and trim work completed now that the weather is more conducive to faster drying time. Clean-up and initial remodeling of the upstairs apartment over the new “Shore Antique” store is continuing. Note that Paul. Fiona, Trey, and “little Matt” are very much enjoying running their new antique and collectible store at 3282 Main Street and are tickled to have joined the business district. They are open Friday-Sunday. Wonderful eclectic merchandise unlike anything currently being offered in our town. Worth a visit, for sure. Owners live in Norfolk, where Paul’s dad has operated Harpers Antiques on Granby Street for nearly 30 years. Great people!
4) The building next to the Emporium which is owned by Barry and Mogie Marsh is allegedly and reported to be sold to their daughter, Kim. Plans are for that building, called the Mercantile, to be opened as another antique/collectible retail store.
Exciting things happening in the town, a reflection of great leadership and public servants, including the Mayor, Council, staff, and town workers. Undercurrent chatter says there may be a major established retail chain eyeing land along 13 in Exmore as a potential new location.
