NORFOLK, VA — For the third time this year, Phil Hernandez has massively outraised his opponent, Rob Bloxom, Jr. Between July and August, Hernandez raised over $160,000, ending the summer with nearly $250,000 in cash on hand — a nearly 4:1 lead over his opponent in both categories. Hernandez has the grassroots energy, with more than 2,100 contributions under $100.
Time and again, Hernandez has proven himself to be the hardest working candidate, dedicated to ensuring that every family in the 100th district feels seen, heard, and valued by their representative. In March, Hernandez outraised his opponent 25:1, and in June he outraised his opponent nearly 200:1. As the election draws closer, today’s results demonstrate the strength of the grassroots momentum that will carry Hernandez all the way to Election Day.
By the numbers:
- Phil raised $162,633 — nearly 4:1 more than his opponent.
- Phil’s cash on hand is $245,123 — nearly 4:1 more than his opponent.
- Phil has now broken the record for most amount raised in a race for House District 100.
- Phil had over 2,100 contributions under $100 — compared to just 49 for his opponent.
- Phil’s average contribution under $100 was just $9.56.
The 100th district includes Virginia’s Eastern Shore and northern neighborhoods of the City of Norfolk. The district has trended blue in recent years, choosing the Democratic candidate in each of the most recent Congressional, Senatorial (federal and state), Presidential, and Gubernatorial elections. Phil is a Democrat running against incumbent Republican Robert Bloxom, Jr.
Born and raised in Hampton Roads, Phil Hernandez attended public schools, and received a scholarship that made it possible for him to attend William & Mary and become the first in his family to graduate from college. Phil served as a Senior Policy Analyst in President Obama’s White House Domestic Policy Council, and, while in law school, helped to pass legislation aimed at preventing homelessness. More recently, Phil worked as an attorney with a nonprofit organization and advocated for civil rights and the rights of working people.

Yeah I am real impressed with Hernandez. He hasn’t lived near the area for a long time. He has zero business and political leadership experience. He’s a hired gun from the democrats out after a solid seat and a great leader who is in a lot of important committees in the House for the Commonwealth. This is totally identity politics going after an area of many minorities with the democrats believing Rob Bloxom would have weak minority support. Most of Hernandez money is coming from outside this area. His great claim to fame is that he helped pen some important legislation to help address the homeless situation in California. Uh, HELLO !!! Is anybody home ? Has anyone seen any reports on the homeless issues in California ? Mr. Hernandez one claim to political fame is a total disaster.
Oh, and please learn how to spell Bloxom. Just go to the town and read the street sign.
