  1. Levi Strauss happened to be in San Francisco during the gold rush, which provided him with a ready market for his products, which included imported fine dry goods from his brothers in New York, including clothing, bedding, combs, purses, and handkerchiefs.

And not only did he have a ready market for his products, he also had a cheap source of supply for his work pants, which were made from sail cloth.

During that period, sailing ships by the score were coming to San Francisco, where they were abandoned by their crews who went off to the gold fields to make their fortune.

Thus, when the ships were abandoned, so were the sails in their sail lockers, as well as all the sail cloth in the lofts where sails were made.

For Levi Strauss, timing was everything.

  2. “1964: President Lyndon Baines Johnson announces the Great Society legislative program, in which he promises to “eliminate poverty and racial injustice in America.”

Incredible failure by the “Left” or incredible lie by the “Left”?
Either way, an incredible failure after 55 years!
