Republican incumbent Jen Kiggans denied a challenge by Democrat Missy Cotter Smasal in the race to represent Virginia’s 2nd District in the House of Representatives. The Associated Press called the race early Wednesday evening for Kiggans.
She received 51% of the votes reported compared with Cotter Smasal’s 47%, as of late Wednesday afternoon. By the time the AP declared Kiggans the victor, she already had.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to be chosen to represent #VA02 in Congress again…!” Kiggans wrote on social media. “I’m incredibly thankful that Southeast Virginia has once again chosen commonsense conservatism … together we will get our country back on the right track and secure America’s success.”
Results in the race were delayed Tuesday night because Virginia Beach did not report early, provisional or absentee ballots. More than 121,000 early voters were tabulated and added to the totals overnight.
