Calling all candidates for Cape Charles Town Council!

The Cape Charles Mirror will publish statements on just why you feel you are fit to represent the citizens of this town by serving on the Town Council. Please send them to capecharlesmirror@gmail.com. If you want to torture us, we can also provide a sit down interview.

Some topics to consider:

Spending vs Revenue-Do you support a reduction in spending to bring costs in line with revenue, or do you support increasing revenue through taxation to meet the cost of government functions.

In general, which best describes your view on balancing the budget?

How do you decide when it is time to raise revenue and when it is time to lower spending?

Matching Costs vs Lowering Taxes-Do you feel it is it more important to balance the budget or lower taxes?

Does the inflationary effects of deficit spending warrant immediate tax increases and spending cuts to balance the budget, or is the threat of higher taxes and less government service more dangerous to the town?

Specific Tax Increases – If you support an increase in taxation to balance the budget, what specific increases or loophole closures, specifically those that benefit only business, would you support?

Specific Spending Cuts – If you support a reduction in spending to balance the budget, in what specific areas would you make cuts? What department would you cut?
