Helping run a small business in Virginia Beach keeps me busy, but I never miss an election. I vote for individual candidates, not party labels, and I respect the result, whoever wins.
I expect my elected representatives in Washington to do the same.
Last week, I saw a story in The Wall Street Journal about a bipartisan group of lawmakers demanding that House leadership follow the procedures laid out in the Constitution and seat newly elected, state-certified members without delay or complication. I applaud Congressmen Don Bacon (R-NE-02) and Josh Gottheimer (D-
NJ-05) for leading this effort, and I call on our own Rep. Jen Kiggans to sign on.
In business, an agreement means little if someone changes the terms when payment comes due. Elections deserve the same respect for established rules.
Kiggans should make her commitment before we know who wins. Sign the letter and tell Speaker Johnson to seat the certified winners. My vote should count regardless of which party it helps.
