I recently took a ride around Food lion and the surrounding neighborhood, to give my option of how best to safely and cost effectively leave the parking lot. Wall mart is a good example of what I would suggest.
-A driveway running east from the backside of Food lion to 684 (Bayview circle) .
-From there one can turn right and proceed to the 643/13 traffic light or;
-Turn left on 684 to S.Bayside ed. Than left again to Stone rd light or;
-Turn right thru Cheriton to Oyster an 13 on the north end of town.(good for business owners in Cheriton).
-A little bit more driving is the name of safty.
Or who would pay the cost of a yet unnecessary level rail road crossing and the operating costs of that crossing.
-Much cheaper. Safer and better for the community to go around.
-Ingress Food lion from 13
-Egress out the back.
How hard is that?

This is definitely a better solution than the current “just add (yet) another traffic signal that’s (absurdly) close to an existing one.” The ideas Paffrath suggests are eminently sensible and would certainly be a better use of tax dollars than the “million-dollar mile” just completed off Stone Road. But how to get VDOT to buy in?
