Anonymous letter from local Scribe and Spirit.
I am a local with roots here on our shore as well as a resident in the town of Cape Charles. As of lately, we have seen a lot of developments and a lot of disappointments. Our water although never tasty has never stunk this badly.
I find this unacceptable with the new addition of the water treatment plant. If it could be tolerated before it certainly cannot be tolerated now.
The dredging of our beaches has expanded our drop off zones and created changes in current. Most locals with children tend to hover at the north end of the beach where the “coves” are located. The children don’t have to go out so far to be in waist-deep water, the sand there is not as extensive as at the southern tip which keeps them further away from the drop off zone.
However this year I have seen numerous tourists fishing there in our coves which deters our children as a fish hook in an eye could lead to serious injury and we have a perfectly good fish pier. The bait does not only lure fish but sharks as well.
Educated people know this. Locals know this as most are watermen.
Aggressive animals are also found on our beaches without regards to the posted laws that state no animal should be on the beach between 9 am and 9 pm. Why doesn’t our local law enforcement monitor our beaches where tons of people gather during the season?
Is the local enforcement for locals or for all?
The greed in the eyes of the town overlooks our safety and comfort. Please uphold the law Cape Charles. Citizens of the town please elect a local, a from here not a come here.
There can be a good balance between growth and respect, following the law and safety… we must find it.

The words mean the same no matter who wrote it. What are you going to do if you knew?
Nothing, that’s what.

Blame your local Real Estate Broker and the Agents that carry their water.
Look what they have brought to your doors.
Publius Americanus says
Prosperity, increased home values, a tax base that actually throws off TAXES, a rejuvenated town center……..shall I go on?
You should bend a knee and kiss the posteriors of those RE agents……….
Luke The Drifter says
Everything was fine for hundreds of years before y’all came here, it will be the same after you are gone. I kiss no ones ass…think Cool Hand Luke.
Publius Americanus says
OUTstanding grasp of the economics of governing.
Give your teachers a big round of applause.
BTW, Luke is repeatedly beaten, locked in solitary and finally is killed. Great example.

Bless your Heart…you didn’t even get what he meant. I bet you voted for Bath House Barry twice and Crooked Hillary too.
Run along, your phone (plastic crack) is buzzing.
Luke The Drifter says
You sound like a Liberal…I no longer view them as fellow Americans.
John Young says
Cool Hand Luke (1967) is the moving character study of a non-conformist, anti-hero loner who bullheadedly resists authority and the Establishment. One of the film’s posters carried a tagline related to the character’s rebelliousness: “The man…and the motion picture that simply do not conform.”
Silly Rabbit, those types of movies are for adults, not Soy-Boy, modern half-men.
Paul Plante says
Cool Hand Luke was what we here call a “failure to communicate,” which line I really like, to be truthful, having it up there with “endeavor to persevere,” and dude, let me tell you, I am a solid fan of your singing, especially “Too Many Parties and Too Many Pals,” which I think is still relevant today, classic that it is.

Im sure the author thought enough of their opinion, after all they submitted it. Perhaps the bulliment of the towns officals or their social status was a reason to leave the name undisclosed, again the words are there and in my opinion truth. A local should be elected for purposes of preservation and protection of the town itself. There are nothing wrong with from heres nor come heres but who better to represent a town than a native? As well as they would certainly know that fishing from our beaches attracts more than just fish, My only regret with the Scribes article was that the golf carts on the sudewalks was not addressed but other than that keep speaking your peace Scribe! We are behind you!

Well, a town will never come together for the good of all if we have people who still want to segregate people based on where they come from (From Here’s vs. Come Here’s). What does it matter? If someone really cares about this town there are a multitude of opportunities to volunteer on our boards and committee’s to help drive policies and projects that benefit the town for the good of all. As Program Director for Cape Charles Main Street, I welcome all who would like to get involved. Send your contact info to capecharlesmainstreet@gmail.com and in the subejct line – I want to Volunteer. Let us know what your interested in. We welcome all — From Here’s, Come Here’s, or Sometime’s Here 🙂
