Little Farm in Machipongo sells for $1.1 million

April 2, 2023 by Wayne Creed 3 Comments

The property at 12384 Bayside Road in Machipongo which had served as the short-lived home of the Little Farm Rescue in Machipongo has been sold for $1.1 million.

The Cooks began their journey creating The Little Farm in Ojai (California); The IRS determined they were eligible as a tax-exempt charity on 12/11/18, effective 4/6/18. Whether it was escaping the wildfires or the cost of doing business in California, the Cooks loaded up and moved to the Eastern Shore.

They located and purchased 12384 Bayside Road in Machipongo for $620,000 from David and Sarah McElroy (the McElroy’s purchased the property from Thomas Mapp for $121,000 in 2005). The Cooks made a down payment of $124,000, securing a loan in the amount of $474,710.00. After upgrades to property, it is was listed for $1,243,583.00, eventually selling for $1.1 million.

The Cooks have since moved out of state, and now reside in Franklin, TN, just outside of Nashville.

“Take the money and run”?; it certainly appears that way. One can only hope the Cooks have the good judgment not to solicit donations again. The third time (Start and fundraise in Ojai,CA; cash out and move from Ojai to Machipongo,VA; fundraise, cash out again and move to Franklin, TN) may not be the lucky charm.
