Local Artists Scott and Melinda Enter NPR’s Tiny Desk Music Contest

March 25, 2018 by Wayne Creed 5 Comments

The Tiny Desk Contest began in 2014, and according to NPR, they did it for one simple reason:  discovering new music. And since then, this contest has done just that.

Three previous winners, Fantastic Negrito, Gaelynn Lea and Tank and the Bangas have gone on find success. Fantastic Negrito won a Grammy; Gaelynn Lea went on to play at renowned venues like the Kennedy Center; and Tank and the Bangas toured internationally and even headlined NPR Music’s 10-year anniversary party.

Our own local stars Scott and Melinda have taken up the challenge and entered the 2018 contest with a brilliant new song entitled “Bittersweet”.

Scott and Melinda, this blew me away! Can someone provide more information on authorship? Who wrote the lyrics — a joint effort? This song is ready for the big time!

Wow! What a great song! Do Scott and Melinda play anywhere on this side? Would love to catch them sometime. Good luck to them! What a great pool of talent the Shore must have. And that Melinda can really sing! What a cutie! Bittersweet, with whistling! Great concept. I’d buy the record…

Wow … What a terrific performance! Great new song. Fits Melinda’s soulful voice and style perfectly. And Scott nails the picking. I feel so fortunate to have heard these terrific entertainers many times on the Shore. Best wishes for a turn on Tiny Desk.
