  1. Funny thing about the VMRC getting involved in some part of commercial fishing. Once they get their teeth into a crop, shortly thereafter comes VIMS in this area, and other like minded and connected educational organizations in other areas. What then follows is “the study and understanding” of the entire scope of a fishery and all the problems within and around it. Those studies of the fishery is supported by Grants. Those grants begin the support of a whole new industry, to study that fishery. Well, the sad thing is, the problem they believe exists, is never resolved. The grants get bigger and the studies go on forever. The scientists don’t want to find a self sustaining solution. They like the grants. The grants pay well, and the scientists get to send their kids to exclusive schools. God Bless America and our huge government.

    1. It’s my understanding that the ONLY fishery not under VMRC official oversight is the menhaden fishery .

      Is that true ?

      1. I’m a little surprised this question was directed to me. I’d received a few comments that folks were happy I’d said I had retired from voicing opinions. I had voiced my opinion that some opinions were very harsh and more like personal attacks which I did not think was appropriate or helpful for the discussion at all. Be that as it may, I don’t know the answer to the question. I see that Mr. Ewell, who wrote the original article, says that yes is the answer to your question. I have no information and cannot agree or disagree with him.
