CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles’ new Town Manager, Rick Keuroglian, has spoken publicly for the first time about his abrupt departure from his previous position as Georgetown’s town administrator, where an exodus of officials unfolded under his watch last year.
During the tumultuous period, Chris Koeberl, a reporter for the Clear Creek Courant, repeatedly attempted to contact Keuroglian for comment but received no response. However, after accepting his new role in Cape Charles, Keuroglian agreed to an interview.
In November, the Georgetown Board of Selectmen accepted the resignations of Keuroglian and former Town Treasurer Mary Sims, who had served for 23 years. Town Clerk Jennifer Yobski resigned shortly afterward. Keuroglian, who had taken office in April 2022, departed with a $70,000 severance—half of his annual salary—along with three months of town-supported health care, per contractual obligations, according to Assistant Town Administrator Kazia Hart following a Colorado Open Records Act request.
Below are excerpts from Chris Koeberl’s article. The full interview with Keuroglian can be found in the Clear Creek Courant.
Keuroglian told the Courant that his tenure in Georgetown became untenable due to conflicts with staff and the Board of Selectmen.
“There were, like, eight executive sessions, and you’re never going to get that information … and it was really, really bad,” Keuroglian said. “It was horrifying. It was like a nightmare of going through personal attacks and accusations that were unfounded.”
He also revealed that his severance agreement came with conditions.
“I signed the six-month severance agreeing to not slander the town or anything like that, but (that) I would also not sue the town,” Keuroglian said.
Despite these remarks, Keuroglian declined to elaborate on specific circumstances that led to his departure, only stating, “There is another side to the story.”
