The NRYG board has worked to raise funding ( united way, pie sales ) to get funding for a part-time seasonal Youth Garden Club Coordinator. Until now we have done this with volunteers only( running a B&B makes it hard to be able to count on being there at 4 every Thursday!) and when working with children you need consistency and we feel resources toward a paid person will help us continue to grow the garden.
Over the last five years we have gone from a Fall Garden club with 3 raised beds and 7 youth, to now offering Spring, Summer and Fall programs, 8 raised beds, Butterfly and herb garden, 2 new taller raised beds going in this Spring which will allow kids to work with seniors and are serving 23-24 children a week!
Deadline is March 14th Youth Garden Club Coordinator Application
The kick off the garden will be the 6th Annual Blessing of the Worms, April 24th 3pm and the Spring garden club “Thursdays in the Garden” will May 5th- June 2nd, every Thursday, time is still being tweaked. Children 5-13 welcome and of course its FREE! The garden is always looking for people to volunteers, they can have little or no garden knowledge but they MUST love kids! Those interested should contact helpnewrootsyouthgarden@gmail.com.
