EASTVILLE, Va. — Northampton County teens looking for leadership experience and an unforgettable summer opportunity can now apply to become 4-H Camp Counselors or Counselors-in-Training (CITs) for the 2025 season.
The Virginia Cooperative Extension’s Northampton 4-H program is recruiting responsible, enthusiastic teens to help supervise and lead activities at its annual 5-day, 4-night residential camp for boys and girls ages 9 to 13. The camp provides a fun, safe environment where youth can build friendships and learn new skills—and teen leaders play a key role in making that happen.
Teen Camp Counselors must be between 14 and 18 years old by July 1, 2025. They will assist in planning and conducting camp activities, supervising campers in cabins and during classes, and ensuring the overall safety and well-being of the youth in their care. The cost to participate is $225, but scholarships are available.
For younger teens, the program also offers Counselor-in-Training (CIT) positions. Applicants must be between 14 and 16 years old by September 30, 2025. CITs will work alongside counselors and adult volunteers to assist with camp activities and camper supervision. The cost for the CIT program is $275, with scholarship opportunities available.

Both counselors and CITs are required to complete at least 24 hours of training prior to camp. Training sessions will be offered both in-person and virtually, with dates and times to be announced later. Selected teens are expected to demonstrate responsibility, maturity, and the ability to be a positive role model for younger campers.
This is a fantastic way for teens to build their leadership skills while having fun and giving back to their community. Many of our teen leaders tell us it’s one of the best experiences of their summer.
