EASTVILLE, Va. — The Northampton High School boys soccer team, led by head coach Chase Baxa, captured its second Class 1 state championship in three years with a commanding 7-1 win over Eastern Montgomery on Saturday.
Senior Thomas Dix led the Yellowjackets with a hat trick in the title game, capping off a dominant postseason and a remarkable 12-game winning streak to close out the season.
Despite being a small school on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, Northampton tested itself throughout the regular season by scheduling matches against larger Class 5 opponents. The Yellowjackets battled Cox High School to a 3-3 draw and defeated Hickory High 2-1 — a team that advanced to the Class 5 state semifinals.
The Jackets scored 94 goals and posted 11 shutout wins this season.
The latest title adds to Northampton’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in Class 1 soccer, with strong senior leadership and a willingness to take on top-tier competition.
