A new chapter in Northampton County government is set to begin as the Board of Supervisors has selected Matt Spuck to serve as the next County Administrator, effective January 1, 2026.
Spuck, who has spent the past five years guiding the Town of Onancock as its manager, will first join Northampton’s leadership team as Special Assistant to the Board on November 17, 2025. The early start aims to ensure a steady handoff as longtime Administrator Charlie Kolakowski prepares to retire after eight years of service at year’s end.
The Board’s announcement follows a months-long nationwide recruitment effort supported by an outside consulting firm. Board Chairman John Coker praised the process and the outcome, noting that Spuck’s background rose to the top of a highly competitive field.
Spuck’s résumé reflects more than two decades spent in public and nonprofit administration. In Onancock, he spearheaded key efforts in infrastructure upgrades, economic development, and expanded community engagement. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Quinnipiac University and an advanced graduate certificate in public administration from Old Dominion University.
County officials say the upcoming transition period will prioritize continuity across departments and maintaining positive momentum on current projects. Spuck’s appointment signals the county’s focus on experienced leadership as it enters 2026 with new goals on the horizon.
