NORTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — The Northampton County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to request a reduced speed limit on a portion of U.S. Route 13, asking the state to lower the limit to 35 mph along a 2.5-mile stretch of the highway.
The proposed reduction would apply from the intersection of Cherrystone Road to an area near the southern point at Kiptopeke Elementary School. The request will be reviewed by the Virginia Department of Transportation, which has final authority over speed limits on state-maintained roads.
If approved, the change would establish the lowest posted speed limit on U.S. Route 13 anywhere on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Route 13 serves as the region’s primary north-south traffic artery, carrying both local and through traffic.
County officials noted that the lower speed limit could also allow certain low-speed vehicles to operate legally on the highway. These vehicles, which resemble golf carts, are permitted on roads with posted speeds of 35 mph or less unless specifically prohibited. To qualify, the vehicles must meet safety requirements, including the presence of a windshield, speedometer and other required equipment.
The supervisors’ action sends a formal request to VDOT, which will conduct its own analysis before determining whether to approve the speed limit change.

Everyone knows,this is all to accommodate Cape Charles golf carts. The hell with the rest of you! CC comes first, just give us your tax dollars. Chief Pruitt and his crew will enforce the speed limit. Just another Eastville highway robbery dept. that wants a cut of the pie.
Now you see why the chief was sending his officers to radar enforcement training.
He don’t care about the speeding vehicle in CC. He just wants to get into the same action that Eastville police have, you know, family connection.
Oh the shame of the Northampton board of supervisors for even considering this retard move.
Now where’s the alternative option… ?. An overpass from CC to Food Lion. Or hey, how about a casino for Cape Charles!? You can build it along side the railroad/golfcart trail. It will be one long casino for easy parking.
Northampton county has become known as the land of retards and corruption.
They didn’t slow it down for farm machinery over the last 80 years.
