  1. Are these Commercial Fishing Boats to big to be in the bay, where the water depth is about 50-65 ft in the deepest areas? What about the huge nets they drop to catch fish? I just do not see how boats this large could fish in the bay without dredging up the bay floor.

  2. No doubt these huge Nets have an untold by catch since there are no observers on the ships. These Nets are also killing many crabs and damaging habitat.

  3. It takes Bunker or Shad to bait crab pots so you can eat crab cakes. Wow! what a concept. It also feed most cats and your beloved dogs.

  4. As quoted in the Mirror “the results of the 2022 Atlantic Menhaden Stock Assessment Update, which indicates the resource is not overfished nor experiencing overfishing relative to the current ecological reference points (ERPs).”

Knowing this one can assume the fishery will not be banned or restricted.

However, the Va. Marine Resource Commission could asses fines for dumping fish illegally.
The dollar is the only way to get their attention. Sloppy and inattentive fish harvest need not be tolerated in Virginia waters.
