Washington, D.C. — Lucas Allen Fussell, a 42-year-old nurse practitioner from Onley, was denied bond late Friday in U.S. District Court after being arrested on charges of distributing child pornography.
Fussell, who was employed by Eastern Shore Rural Health Services, was taken into custody earlier that day. Federal prosecutor Paul V. Courtney argued that Fussell posed a flight risk and a threat to public safety, leading to the court’s decision to hold him without bond until trial.
In the courtroom, Fussell was represented by defense lawyer Elizabeth Mullin of Alexandria. Mullin argued unsuccessfully for her client to be granted bond. Fussell waived his right to a preliminary hearing, and no arraignment has been scheduled. A status hearing is set for August 19.
Fussell was arrested on Tuesday when FBI agents raided his Coastal Boulevard home. The arrest followed an investigation that allegedly revealed Fussell had sent sexually explicit videos and images of boys and men to an undercover FBI agent on June 22 and June 30. He is charged in a criminal complaint with the distribution of child pornography.
Fussell began his tenure with Eastern Shore Rural Health, which operates four medical centers on the Shore, in 2012. Additionally, he owns Compassion in Care MMC LLC, a company headquartered at his home, according to records from the Virginia State Corporation Commission. The limited liability company was established approximately two years ago.
