North Carolina’s newest report (May 5) shows nursing homes and residential care facilities account for 269 of the state’s total 452 deaths, 60%. In the week from Apr 28 to May 5, 82 of the state’s 110 reported deaths are nursing home/RCF, 75%.
Current nursing home death percentages (and rising): Pennsylvania 67% Massachusetts 60% Maryland 60% North Carolina 60% Virginia 57% New Jersey 50%.
Paul Plante says
All I can say as the days go by is that the surreality factor related to this COVID CIRCUS CLUSTER**** goes higher and higher and higher, and here I am referring to an Albany, New York Times Union article just out entitled “Cuomo on nursing homes’ response: ‘We can’t save every life’ – Western New York to reopen; Cuomo urges sports teams to start up without stadium fans” by Brendan J. Lyons on May 18, 2020, where we were treated to this following spew of absolute horse**** from New York’s Democratic Socialist governor Andy Cuomo, as follows, to wit:
ALBANY — Facing intensifying criticism of his administration’s handling of nursing homes in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday said New York had a high number of fatalities in those facilities “not because we did anything wrong” but due — at least in part — to bad luck.
“From day one we said that this was going to be hard, and we said that we drew bad cards in this hand,” Cuomo said, noting that New York has had the nation’s highest number of COVID-19 infections and deaths, including more than 5,700 fatalities in nursing homes.
end quotes
The thin-skinned Andy Cuomo is never going to admit that he has done something wrong by ordering nursing homes in New York to take in elderly patients suffering from COVID, so he puts it off on “bad luck,” instead, which is a lame cop-out.
The only bad luck involved is those poor people in those nursing homes being in a nursing home in New York state.
And it is total bull**** from Cuomo that he ever said “(F)rom day one we said that this was going to be hard, and we said that we drew bad cards in this hand,” as we can clearly see from a Press Release from Cuomo on March 1, 2020, wherein was stated as follows:
Albany, NY
“Governor Cuomo Issues Statement Regarding Novel Coronavirus in New York”
“This evening we learned of the first positive case of novel coronavirus — or COVID-19 — in New York State.”
“The patient, a woman in her late thirties, contracted the virus while traveling abroad in Iran, and is currently isolated in her home.”
“The patient has respiratory symptoms, but is not in serious condition and has been in a controlled situation since arriving to New York.”
“There is no cause for surprise — this was expected.”
“As I said from the beginning, it was a matter of when, not if there would be a positive case of novel coronavirus in New York.”
“There is no reason for undue anxiety — the general risk remains low in New York.”
“We are diligently managing this situation and will continue to provide information as it becomes available.”
end quotes
“No reason for undue anxiety” on 1 March 2020 is quite a bit different than “(F)rom day one we said that this was going to be hard, and we said that we drew bad cards in this hand.”
This is the same Andy Cuomo who was featured in an auburnpub.com article entitled “Cuomo: ‘Nobody’s to blame’ for NY nursing home COVID-19 deaths” by Robert Harding on April 24, 2020, where we have this spew of bull**** from the governor, to wit:
As Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced new directives for nursing homes to ensure they are complying with federal and state COVID-19 guidelines, he said Thursday that “nobody’s to blame” for the more than 3,500 residents who have died after contracting the virus.
end quotes
Nope, just bad luck and bad cards, alright, because Andy Cuomo is never wrong, even when he is very wrong, which takes us back to that article, as follows:
Nursing homes are also required to readmit residents with COVID-19, which has been a source of contention between the state and nursing homes.
Stephen Hanse, president and CEO of the New York State Health Facilities Association, told The Citizen last week that there have been concerns since the March 25 advisory from the state Department of Health.
The advisory stated that nursing homes couldn’t deny admission or readmission to residents who had confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19.
Nursing homes also couldn’t test for COVID-19 before admitting or readmitting a resident who was recently hospitalized.
“This treacherous virus spreads through nursing homes like fire through dry grass and the state’s March 25 policy served to unnecessarily fan the flames of this fire,” Hanse said.
The COVID-19 death toll in nursing homes and adult care facilities is up to 3,540 — nearly one-quarter of the statewide coronavirus-related fatalities.
There have been COVID-19 deaths reported by nursing homes in 29 counties.
end quotes
Of course, that order by Cuomo has nothing to do with all those nursing home deaths, because really, people, nobody is responsible for them, starting with Andy Cuomo himself, which takes us back to that article, to wit:
He was later asked what went wrong in nursing homes that led to large numbers of fatalities.
He said that “nobody’s to blame” and that the virus is one that “attacks old people.”
end quotes
And that takes us to a Business Insider article entitled “An NYC nursing home forced to take coronavirus patients was also sent a supply of body bags for when they died” by Ashley Collman on April 24, 2020, to wit:
An executive at an unnamed Queens, New York nursing home told the New York Post on Thursday how officials sent them body bags when they were forced to admit coronavirus patients last month.
An executive at the unnamed Queens nursing home says that the facility was coronavirus-free until Gov. Andrew Cuomo forced facilities in the state to accept coronavirus patients on March 25.
This nursing home went on to see 30 people die of the coronavirus in the following weeks.
And every week they get five more body bags.
“Cuomo has blood on his hands.”
“He really does.”
“There’s no way to sugarcoat this,” the executive added.
“Why in the world would you be sending coronavirus patients to a nursing home, where the most vulnerable population to this disease resides?”
Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for the governor, called the comment “disgusting” in a response to the Post, saying these facilities were “trying to deflect from their failures.”
end quotes
Rich Azzopardi, of course, for those who don’t know him, or of him, is the very same Rich Azzopardi who was the star of a 28 March 2019 New York Times story entitled “In Profane Rant, Cuomo Aide Calls 3 Female Lawmakers ‘Idiots’,” and a Splinter News article entitled “Cuomo Aides Not Big Fans of Young Female Legislators” by Samantha Grasso on 3/28/19, wherein was stated as follows, to wit:
If you thought New York Gov. Andrew was a piece of work, just look at his staff.
A senior adviser to the governor called three young female state lawmakers “f**king idiots” on Wednesday, the New York Times reported.
The insult was in response to a press conference the women held criticizing Cuomo for reportedly hosting a $25,000-ticket fundraiser earlier this month during the state’s budget season, which wasn’t mentioned on Cuomo’s public schedule.
end quotes
So, yes, my goodness, isn’t it truly disgusting that these nursing home operators would dare to accuse Andy Cuomo of having blood on his hands, when it is both obvious and apparent that what they really are doing is “trying to deflect from their failures.”
What horse**** is all I can say in response to that emanation from that thuggish fool who is Andy Cuomo’s chief spokesperson.
