  1. Theories, theories, theories. Our scientists are full of them, theories. The disease(s) that have ruined our oyster industry have been here for how long now ? 60 years ? Our scientists are wonderful people who study method after method and demand controls over an industry that sustain their industry through grants and more grants, that forever send their kids to get a higher education, but they do not keep their eyes on the prize. They do not find the cure for the diseases. The ariakensis oyster was touted to be the savior to the industry, and that theory was left behind due to lack of shelf life. The answer is the completely disease resistant oyster which has yet to be found. Our oysters die in the 2nd year of their spawning cycle in the warmer summer months. Just when they are getting to be a legal market size. Overfishing has not been the problem for a long, long time. So now they have convinced the feds to give them grants for a 15 year study for reef building when they know the oysters become diseased and die about 75% of the time in their 2nd year ? It sounds to me like ” the art of writing a grant proposal” has reached new heights. If they have not introduced a completely disease resistant oyster none will live the 15 years to create a 15 year mature functioning habitat.

  2. An informative response!

    Nice to see.

And I think you are right when you talk about the art of grant writing.

Reality seems to be left out of that process all too often.
