Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled its next seminar, “Heat, Pressure, Beauty, and Turmoil in the Yellowstone Ecosystem.” The free 90-minute seminar will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22 in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410.
Using still and video images Tony Picardi will show the geology that underlies the 10,000 hot springs, mud pots and geysers that release pent-up steam from underground cavities of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. He will also discuss Yellowstone Park history, its geology, ungulate migrations, alpine forbs, and vistas.
Picardi is a Master Naturalist; for the past 14 years he has led nature-study trips and seminars on the Eastern Shore regarding butterflies, insects, mushrooms, native plant gardens and meadows.
These seminars are occasionally rescheduled or postponed on short notice. Prospective attendees are urged to check the Seminar’s website (www.SciPhi.org) shortly before a scheduled date.
Science and Philosophy Seminar is an informally organized group that meets more or less regularly to explore and discuss a wide array of topics, ranging from philosophical speculation to scientific research. All Seminars are open to the public. Admission is free.
