On October 6-8, 2017, we will offer a two-day professional development program for Art Teachers at the UVa Anheuser-Busch Coastal Research Center (ABCRC) on the Eastern Shore of VA. Primary and secondary school teachers completing the program will receive 16 hours of Re-certification Credits.
The workshop is led by Alice McEnerney Cook and Linda Blum. Alice is an artist based in New Jersey with multiple years of experience teaching Plein Aire painting and Observational Drawing techniques to Art teachers. Dr. Linda Blum is a professor at the University of Virginia with over 30 years of research experience in coastal ecosystems. The purpose of this offering is to provide primary and secondary school teachers with an opportunity to learn and practice the techniques used in Plein Aire painting along with an introduction to the ecology and environmental issues impacting the diverse habitats of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The program combines classroom discussions of Plein Aire techniques and basic ecology with visits to scenic natural areas where participants have the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction and practice Plein Aire painting techniques.
All required art supplies are provided as part of the $100.00 fee. Meals and lodging at the ABCRC are provided. We are limited to 14 participants, and because the workshop is so popular, it typically fills very quickly.
