Suzy’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard (Suzanne Baker) has submitted an application to rezone two parcels at 303 and 309 Jefferson Avenue from Residential-1 to Commercial-1 which would allow the business to offer the addition of a golf cart drive-thru service window and improve exterior seating; the intent is to operate a frozen custard shop in the existing structure with a golf-cart drive-thru service.
The Planning Commission has held a public hearing at their March 2, 2021 meeting and are working with the
applicant to further refine the applicant to a conditional rezoning application and will be taking this matter up
at their April 6, 2021 meeting to vote on their recommendation concerning the rezoning request.
A public hearing has been set by Town Council for the 15th of April.
Tony Storey says
My issue would be; what’s to stop another property owner of a vacant lot asking to rezone their property Commercial?
Or is this just the start of turning Jefferson Avenue into Mason Ave #2.
From a part-time Barber Shop to another 7 day a week operation, ( with a Drive- Thru ), is quite a stretch!
Anne Stratton says
It would be a huge mistake to rezone the property to commercial because that would open the door for other types of businesses to come and would take away from the residential feel of Cape Charles on Jefferson Avenue. Suzy’s custard business can still operate under residential-1 just as the prior business did.
Suzanne Hallberg says
This is not a good idea. We don’t want to set precedents like this in residential the neighborhood.
Scotiagirl says
OMG! Support new business in quaint and failing Cape Charles!?!? Who would even think of such a thing?
