Parksley, Va. — Residents of Virginia’s Eastern Shore are invited to participate in a Climate Equity Workshop aimed at addressing the region’s pressing environmental challenges. The workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Eastern Shore of Virginia Regional Library & Heritage Center, located at 24313 Bennett Street in Parksley.
The event is part of the Eastern Shore of Virginia (ESVA) Climate Equity Project, which seeks to involve the community in discussions and solutions surrounding climate-related issues such as wet yard and septic system problems, difficulties commuting after heavy rains, and neighborhoods being cut off by high tides.
Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the Climate Equity Atlas prototype, an interactive data tool designed to promote equity in climate adaptation efforts. The workshop promises to be engaging, with interactive stations and presentations planned throughout the event. Child care will be provided, and dinner will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The event is free, but attendees are encouraged to register online at https://forms.gle/DK8aDSeLNAT4rdtMA. A QR code for registration is also available on the event flyer.
This initiative is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Coastlines and People (CoPe) program, reflecting the growing concern over the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities.
