The so-called Airbnd bill, SB1391, sponsored by Senator Lynwood Lewis, was passed on and died on the floor this week. Also known as the “What the Heck Were You Thinking” bill, it would have limited localities’ ability to regulate Airbnb’s if the property was managed by a licensed Virginia Realtor.
Localities all over the state, including here in Northampton, went ballistic over the proposed legislation. The groundswell of anger sent Lewis scurrying for cover. It also frees up local government to continue to do absolutely nothing about short-term vacation rentals and the devastating effects they have on Shore communities.
