  1. There is a project ongoing to improve the facilities at the VIMS Campus in Wachapreague, Va. Included in this project is a sewer system for commercial businesses on Atlantic Ave. It is a work in process with Pro’s and Con’s.

I found this article to be of interest to educate and to inform the shareholders.

Is there the possibility that this information could be made available to the Wachapreague Town Council and the community .

    1. That VIMS Campus has a better facility that the USCG. That in itself is sad and then they fail to pay taxes. Why on earth were they allowed to invade Wachapreague the way they have?

      1. Mr. Bell,
For your concern regarding taxes. The Code of Virginia Article 58.1-3403 Property Owned by the Commonwealth lists the exceptions.

        1. Throughout the country and in the Commonwealth there is an accepted procedure for non-profits to reimburse the community for loss revenues. It is called Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) which has not been pursued by either the Wachapreague Town Council or VIMS. The loss of real estate tax revenues to the town currently is just under 15%, but with the substantial building replacement program now underway at VIMS, the tax assessment for these new expensive buildings/property will see that real estate tax abatement/revenue losses to the town far exceeding 15%. For a small town such as Wachapreague, with under 230 full time residents, this tax revenue loss has significant impact and causes these lost revenues to be made up by the taxpaying residents.

          1. Hi Stuart, just trying to educate you and what the rules are.
Read the article and Mr. Joeckel’s response.

  2. It’s called climate change. It’s been happening on this planet for millions of years and there isn’t a damn thing ANYONE can do about it but move to higher ground. Spare me the LIBERAL dribble about some bull chit green deal. WE know and YOU know it’s B-chit. Get involved in causes you can actually make a difference in or does that not pay good and involve too much work?????
