Seminar, More Than Glory: African American Civil War Soldiers of ESVA

November 4, 2018 by Wayne Creed Leave a Comment

Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled its next seminar, “More Than Glory: African American Civil War Soldiers of ESVA.”

The free 90-minute seminar will be at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 9 in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa, VA 23410.

Kellee Green Blake will share stories of Shoremen who fought in the famed United States “Colored” Troops (USCT). These local men, many enslaved before the war, won major battles, led in the liberation of Richmond, and saw Lee surrender. With disparate pay, inconsistent support, and unimaginable demands, they nevertheless risked all to “smite for liberty

Blake is retired Director of National Archives-Mid Atlantic Region; she is well known on the Shore for her historically based play, articles, and lectures on the Civil War.
