Town Council of Cape Charles has set September 5, 2020 as a day of celebration to recognize the 10th Anniversary of Cape Charles Central Park. The date also recognizes the Citizens for Central Park for their continued efforts to improve the park.
Central Park was first dedicated on September 5, 2010.
The Citizens for Central Park have worked every year since to improve the Park, such as by leading the charge for the construction of the restroom
facility, improved landscaping including over 56 new trees, upgrades to the electrical infrastructure, replacement of memorial trees as needed, the sale and placement of memorial bricks, new child-friendly and safe playground equipment, the creation, and posting of signage listing the names of the playground equipment donors, creation and posting of signage listing the
names of the donors of the memorial trees in Central Park, introduction and management of the Grand Illumination Celebrations.
The group has also been instrumental in putting on 57 free summer concerts since 2012.

The park doesn’t drain. It’s a mosquito breeding Mecca with stagnant water sitting for weeks on end. It’s been that way since the renovations. Free weekend concerts are advertised all over town but there are no designated parking areas or policing of parking violations around private residences bordering the the park. We have to put out lives on hold every summer weekend while cars block driveways and alleys, leaving no way out. It seems there is much more work to be done here to address some major, lingering issues.

This past weekend several non resident vehicles parked in the Old School parking lot. Also starting to get vehicles parking there for Tennis courts as well……not fun for the tenants!
