Herbert Marcuse, of the Frankfurt School of critical theory, published an essay in 1965 with the title “Repressive Tolerance”. Marcuse argued that “liberating tolerance” would entail “the withdrawal of toleration of groups and assembly from groups and movements” on the right, while encouraging all aggressive movements on the left.
His dream seems to have come true in Cape Charles and the Shore in general, as hoards of “tolerant” people congeal here on the Shore.
It appears that if you use the wrong word, support a conservative candidate, fail to line up for the next obviously good cause, and the “tolerant” will be the first to come after you. They may not be able to burn you at the stake, à la the Spanish Inquisition, but they will do their best to try and cancel you. They will castigate you, even try and destroy your business because, well, you know, you’re deplorable.
This week a golf cart was attacked, its tires slashed. The crime that triggered this “tolerant” outrage was apparently that the owner had a Glenn Youngkin (R) bumper sticker on the back of the cart. The sticker was also slashed.
As it stands, the Cape Charles Police are on the case.

I’m in total agreement with Carla,…and I would likely be tagged as amongst the “congealing hoard”, soon-to invade your wonderful shore lives (once I and my spouse retire). Because I too may someday trundle down the lane in my super-speeder hot rod golf cart, with my freak flags and tree-hugger slogans riding high, and I would hate to have my ride vandalized!

It is time to dissolve our fond memories of the old Cape Charles and get a slap in the face with reality. The old Cape Charles no longer exist. Just like what we referred to as America and Americans. These no longer exist. We may remember the good old days. But this is the new normal. Live with it or hibernate mentally and physically.
Sad. It’s all about the money
Take your carts back to your golf courses, where you are to lazy to walk.
Maybe if they slash a few hundred more, cars can get around town again.
