This Thursday, Town Council discussed a draft ordinance crafted by Councilwoman Cela Burge that would regulate water and recreational vehicle parking on the streets. Safety and parking are becoming a real concern, especially during the tourist season. Mayor Dize also noted that his having to pull over on Randolph due to a boat not providing enough room for two vehicles to pass may have led to the timing of his hitting a deer a few seconds later, “If I hadn’t had to stop those few seconds, I probably wouldn’t have hit that deer.”
The draft was written according to what is currently approved by state code.
While the town is ready to address many of the issues associated with these types of vehicles being parked on the street, it was the consensus that there should be a public work session, similar to the sessions for the dog leash law, before moving forward.
Currently, as the ordinance is written, recreational vehicles will be banned from every street in Cape Charles. Whether some streets, that are wider can have boats parked on them, is to be discussed at the work session.
The works session will be scheduled at the next Regular Meeting of Town Council and should happen sometime in February.
