Town Council Special Meeting March 3rd

February 27, 2022 by Wayne Creed Leave a Comment

Town Council will hold a Special Meeting on March 3rd to amend the HBA contract, which will allow the firm to review additional aspects of new office space for the the town . It will also go into Executive Session to discuss moving forward to the negotiation stage of the potential utility sale to Virginia American Water.

In order to build new town offices, Cape Charles is looking at selling off either teh Municipal Building or Library Building. According to the town, estimates for adding an elevator to both as part of renovation are too high.

Selling either the town offices or the library on Mason Avenue would generate revenue to help fund new construction. The town has conducted a space needs assessment and believes that neither building alone is large enough to adequately accommodate all functions, even if a separate police station is built.

The town is also looking at the Civic Center as part of expansion efforts. HBA has provided a fee proposal of $9,787 to perform a facility condition assessment of the Civic Center.

This additional work would bring the contract value for Phase 1 to $58,284. The town will review and vote on this contract amendment at the March 3rd meeting.
