On Thursday, Town Council approved the Parking Ad Hoc Committee Phase One Recommendations for Parking on Mason Avenue. This means reverse-angle parking will be replaced with front in parking along Mason Avenue.
The Committee also proposes to change the angle of the parking spaces from 60 degrees to 45 degrees, which should provide more visibility when backing out of the parking space. According to staff, the Town will lose approximately seven to nine parking spaces by changing to 45-degree, pull-in angled parking where there currently exists 60-degree reverse-angle parking. The lane width will increase approximately one foot.
The Committee recommends providing parallel parking stripes on the north side of Mason Avenue between Fig Street and Peach Street and between Harbor Street and Bay Avenue, which is what previously existed prior to the resurfacing of Mason Avenue a few years ago.

It is Staff’s opinion that this is the correct interpretation of the angle and has attached a diagram to illustrate the different angles and what they look like. This is why I am liking this town more and more!!! Voting on issues that actually make great sense. People don’t want to have to try and back into parking spots. Kudos to the town council.
They could probably make up this parking spots by implementing pull-in like this on the west side of the beachfront.
Will the police now ticket anyone who backs in to a parking spot?
The Town should implement this type of parking on the beach side of Bay avenue as well!
Only in Cape Charles can you find such stupid Parking as the council now contemplates .Just wait till the first infant or cyclist / Golf cart operator gets injured .with a Car reversing in to Traffic or some one engaging first gear and going through a Store Window . Now Opening your Trunk should be Fun in Traffic and squeezing between parked Cars to even get to your Trunk It looks like the People who cant Drive win the day can only happen in Cape Charles .
