The Town of Cape Charles is accepting applications for a Senior Planner to lead the Planning & Zoning team.
This position serves under the general direction of the Town Manager and supervises a part-time zoning administrator and a full-time planning technician.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: long- and short-term planning activities, state legislation, environmental rules and regulations, zoning overview, and other statutory guidelines.
Oversees the plan review process and comprehensive planning, and analyzes and interprets the Town Code as it relates to planning, zoning, development and land use.
Consults with other agencies, county, state, and federal government; provides administrative and staff support to Town Council, Planning Commission, Historic District Review Board, and other Town Boards.
The incumbent will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, will be an effective decision maker and strategic thinker with the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with residents and board members, and be able to multitask and juggle simultaneous projects in a busy office setting.
A bachelor’s degree, preferably a master’s degree, in urban planning, public administration, or a closely related field, and a minimum of 4 years of experience in professional planning or a related position or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge is required. E&S and AICP Certification are preferred.
Salary DOQ/DOE (salary range: $57,000-$60,000 annual), plus a full benefits package including state retirement.
