CAPE CHARLES — Town officials have scheduled a public meeting for May 27 to consider four possible options for the future location of Cape Charles’ new town hall, including the potential reuse of existing buildings and changes to previously approved plans.
The town has been exploring how best to move forward with its town hall project, and residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on the proposed alternatives at the upcoming meeting.
The first two options involve building the already designed town hall, which was previously approved by Town Council. One proposal would keep the project at its original site on town-owned land along Cassatt Parkway near the historic Rosenwald School. The other would relocate the same design to the former Meatland property, requiring the town to acquire the site.
A third option would move the town hall to town-owned parcels at Fig and Randolph avenues, directly across from the New Roots neighborhood. That site would require a reconfiguration of the current design to accommodate the layout of the property.
The fourth and most distinct proposal would forego building a new structure. Instead, the town would lease space at Trinity Church to house most municipal operations, while renovating the existing town hall to support remaining services.
Town staff say each option comes with trade-offs in terms of cost, timeline, and long-term suitability. More details will be presented at the May 27 meeting, where public comment will be invited.
