How important is the so-called Community Trail? Is it really necessary? These are questions that citizens need to ask. The Town is prepared to get reamed on the Phase 3 construction costs.
The projects Phase 3 development was redesigned once to reduce costs and was finally readvertised this
May. Only one bid of $945,630 was received on June 16 from Conrad Brothers of Virginia, Inc.
The bid, of course, gouges the town and substantially exceeds the engineer’s estimate of $653,494 (+45%). It should be noted that the bid also greatly exceeds the amount of Conrad Brothers initial bid in 2019 (+74%). You know, because of the Pandemic.
Town Council will vote on this issue at Thursday’s Regular Meeting.
Northampton has needed a new high school for years. I guess a trail is more important?
God forbid we improve a high school that serves predominantly middle to lower class income level students and their families!
A bike trail is so important, figures…especially since graduates from Broadwater Academy wrote policy to bring it forward. Broadwater Academy, the school that has perpetuated classism since the day it was incepted and has looked down upon other schools on the Shore for a very long time.
I guess bike trails will attract “tourists” aka richer families who will eventually drive out the ones who have been here for generations.
It’s clear the Eastern Shore of Virginia has officially sold out. One day, it will probably just become like Manhattan.
Manhattan is full of slums, poverty and crime.
Oh well I guess The Fine Citizens Of Good Old Cape Charles Is finally getting what they asked for A Private Company Thats going to charge them BIG PRIVATE PRICES 🙄
