Belle Haven, Va. – The Virginia Eastern Shore Land Trust (VES Land Trust) and Dot Field, Eastern Shore Region Steward for the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, division of Natural Heritage, host a free field trip highlighting the Northeastern Beach Tiger Beetle on June 13, 2016 from 1-3 p.m. Rain date for the event will be June 14, 2016.
The threatened Northeastern Beach Tiger Beetle is found along the Chesapeake Bay beaches and is most active in June and July. Dot Field will present on the biology and common threats to the beetle before leading a field trip to search for them on the Bay. The field trip will take place at the VES Land Trust office in Belle Haven and a VES Land Trust held conservation easement on Scarboroughs Neck.
VES Land Trust will provide transportation between their office and the beach walk site. Participants should come prepared to walk on the beach. Space is limited, please RSVP with Hali at 757-442-5885 or stewardship@veslt.org. For additional information, please visit www.veslt.org.
The VES Land Trust works closely with landowners to protect the Eastern Shore’s farm and forestland, scenic creeks and bays, historic resources, wildlife habitat, and natural resources with conservation easements. A conservation easement is a voluntary deeded agreement offering permanent protection from development while respecting private property rights. Conservation easements are as unique as the property they protect.
