VIRGINIA BEACH – A Virginia Beach man shot his dog twice last Friday night and burned down his detached garage with the dog inside, a press release from the VB Fire Department said Monday.

Luke Alvarado faces animal cruelty and arson charges after his 7-year-old brindle pit bull was found dead in the burned garage. Fire crews went to a fire in the 2000 block of Princess Anne Road just after 11 p.m. Friday.
A necropsy report showed that the dog had been shot twice, but was still alive at the time of the fire, the release said.
Hill, 28, faces a felony count of animal cruelty, three counts of arson to personal property valued at more than $200 and two counts of arson to an out building.
Hill was taken to the Virginia Beach City Jail, the release said. The Sheriff’s Department website says he is being held without bond.
Editors Note: Given the general plight of animals on the Eastern Shore, as well as all the hard work of animal rights advocates, this PR, even though it took place across the bridge, highlights the general state of things.
