Water and Wastewater Reports – March 30

Cape Charles, VA – According to reports from the Wastewater Plant Manager, the wastewater plant treated an average of 192,241 gallons per day last week, with a peak of 316,510 gallons on March 23, 2024. While this represented a decrease from the previous week’s average of 235,080 gallons, the plant continues to handle substantial volumes.

Utility staff remained proactive in maintaining the plant and collection system, conducting routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance. Additionally, they carried out approximately 27 mark-outs, indicating ongoing construction activity within the town.

Collaboration with Virginia American Water (VAW) was a priority for utility staff, as they assisted with minor projects involving mapping the town’s water meters and valves. Furthermore, efforts to ensure accurate water meter readings for the month were ongoing, demonstrating the commitment to data accuracy and billing precision.

The Water Plant Manager reported routine maintenance activities, including filter backwashing and softener regenerations, to uphold water quality standards. Daily testing and analysis were conducted to monitor water quality, with samples collected for bacteria, THM (trihalomethanes), HAA5 (haloacetic acids), and monitoring wells, in compliance with Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regulations.

The Water Treatment Plant (WTP) operated for a total of 71.25 hours, producing 1,058,120 gallons of water, with approximately 116,000 gallons used for processes. The average daily production stood at 151,160 gallons, peaking at 190,120 gallons on March 16, 2024.
