  1. These comments are interesting to read, it is obvious that the constituents are voicing their opinion. Which seems to be a general consensus of the CCYC not being the smartest choice for management and that the CC Harbor has been mishandled for years. I have seen other muni Harbors as well, the CC Harbor does appear in better condition and ran better than most others. I feel Farlow and his staff has done a decent job with what the town has allowed him to do. It’s seems there is room for improvement and the CC Harbor like other municipal harbors are meant to be a service, not a profit making machine. The harbor was founded and created to be a working harbor, the water, the fishing, and the aquaculture industry here is one our greatest attributes.

I only hope that the CC elected officials take heed to what their constituents are saying, to what the general public is saying. I would hate to see a small group of individuals that do not seem to know much about running a harbor, the aquaculture industries, commercial fishing or boats in general make a decision that affects thousands that use the harbor.

It not about tourism, or dollars, it about one of your towns greatest assets.

    1. Seriously?? They provide all that fresh local seafood tourists are always asking for. They are the people that continue our local economy when the tourists go home. This is by far the dumbest comment I’ve ever read.

      1. Of all the dumbest comments I’ve made in my life, this one is only ranked 103. If you want a complete list of my dumb comments, send me your address and I will send you the top 500. By the way, you don’t understand the subtle meaning of the statement, for some readers I should use more understandable words and sentence structure. I will reread my Dick and Jane books.

      1. That is a very insightful question. I have been struggling all my life trying to identify my true self. To answer this question, one must look at numerous perspectives. Who am I to my wife, to my neighbors, to god, to my bartender, my confessor, my doctor, my hair dresser, my money manager, etc. I’m sure, if you ask each one listed above, except god, you would receive numerous answers to your question. Thanks, I plan to spend more time trying to determine “ who am I “ by the by, do you know what cancel culture is?

        1. I think you should travel up and down the Eastern Shore and tell every Waterman you meet they have been canceled. Start at Tangier, that may be as far as you will be able to go.

Note: I believe the hostility against Mr. Giese is misguided. By cancel, I believe he was defending them against the effort to cancel them, that is have them forced out of the harbor.

  2. You know it really doesn’t make any difference at this point in time it’s all the COME HITHERS that are running the town down I was born and raised here now you got little pink houses for you and me and New Jersey and God knows where people dominating things why move down here to get away from where you came from and try to change it back to where you used to live I don’t even go to Cape Charles anymore cuz it’s a joke

    1. Real Estate Brokers and the Agents that carry their water, brought this element to the shore. They sold our home land to strangers and the only thing they vetted was their credit rating. Cape Charles and Onancock are lost, gone.

Make sure to thank them, every which way but loose.

        1. Not only did they sell them, they took a cut to do so.

I do not view you or those like you as a fellow american any longer so there is no need to reply to me, for I don’t care what you think or how you feel about any topic discussed here. You craw out of your rock, up north, and defend negroes, women, freaks and homosexuals. You are a one trick pony.

You sound like a woman or a feminized male (sissy).

  3. I moved here on the shore 2 yrs ago. I love going into Cape Charles. But there is a clear space of land right in front of a ship called Range Rover. What’s it for? Can’t that space be used for functions and live bands? I know this is about the Harbor. Maybe the functions would bring more people off the Harbor into the village.

  4. Real Estate agents and brokers sold homes that didn’t belong to them!!!???!!! That is theft, theft by deception, financial malfeasance….oh, you mean RESIDENTS sold their homes at a fair price, in a mutually agreeable contract?

You do realize that that was the OWNERS who sold, yes?

And please, ‘come here’s’ run everything; what horse siht. Ask the guy who owns the hardware store who really runs the town. Here’s a guess, he and his chums sit outside the hardware store he owns.

  5. At least CCYC answers their phone, and replies to voicemail and email messages. Not the case for city harbor. How much business is missed by the city under the current management? Pretty easy to try better communication for a while.

    1. They can’t even empty the trash cans in a timely manner. I think that answering phones would be far too much to expect from them.

  6. I live on The Shore. I really like visiting Cape Charles. Went there today. Folks are mostly nice. Nobody’s perfect. She crab soup at Kelly’s was dee-lish. So was the rum. Mr. Jay C. Ford is still the backside of a mule and people oughtta just learn to get along.
    Graciousness. Consideration. What a concept.
Balance tradition with the new. That can’t be done ?
Commercial fishermen have always been a major part of the backbone of The Shore. We would all have a more limited quality of life w/o a solid backbone. Ask anyone in a wheelchair.
Cape Charles, the county and commonwealth do not yet have an effective way to balance the access and use of this beautiful harbor between recreational and commercial use ? Well that’s an absolute disgrace. They have not looked around and seen the way another harbor of like kind was/is managed in a workable balance and calculated a way to copy it ? Well that is an obvious disgrace and a simple statement that those that are in position to fix the dilemma should not be in the position that they are in.

    1. ‘She-Crabs’ are Sooks that are too young to breed. They are illegal to catch and keep. You may have been sold you some crab soup with a little bit of roe in it, but no She-Crabs were in it.

      Sad.
