This week, over 200 volunteers, including 150 teens from 15 churches across Virginia, are working at 12 sites in Northampton County, in and around Cape Charles, VA, as part of Impact Mission Camps.
Sponsored by Virginia Baptists, Impact Mission Camps is currently in its 26th year of service across Virginia and beyond. Each summer since the early 1990s, hundreds of teenagers from across the Commonwealth give up a week of their summer and work in the heat and humidity to help homeowners have safer, dryer, and warmer housing. Their work includes replacing roofs, improving ramps, and painting. Camp participants pay $300 each for this experience.
This is the fifth week of service this summer; a total of more than 850 volunteers from 50 churches are working on the Eastern Shore and in Chesterfield, Bluefield, and Danville, as well as assisting with Hurricane Florence Rebuild in North Carolina, completing over 50 projects in those sites.
Volunteers work during the morning and afternoon; in the evenings, they return to their host site to clean up and to worship together.
